Extending rental agreements
Rental agreements can be extended by making a written, informal application (also by email) initially at the end of the standard period of study. After that, extension is possible on a semester by semester basis until the maximum rental period is reached (six to seven semesters depending on the student residence). An extension beyond the maximum rental period is only granted under certain conditions.
The application to extend the rental agreement must be submitted to the housing administration by 26 January at the latest for the summer semester and by 28 June for the winter semester. Late applications can only be taken into account if the place has not been rented to someone else. However, a claim to the extension after the deadline does not exist. An administration fee will be charged for a subsequent renewal of the leasing contract.
Terminating rental agreements
Rental agreements can strictly only be terminated ahead of schedule as of 31 January or 30 September.
To do so, a complete and signed termination form and the deposit refund form must be submitted to the housing administration by 31 January at the latest for the summer semester or by 31 July for the winter semester.
Cancelling rental agreements
The Student Services will agree to an early cancellation of the rental agreement in certain cases. In each case, the requirement is that Augsburg Student Services find a suitable new tenant who fulfils the admission conditions, therefore guaranteeing that the place is rented seamlessly. Cancellation is strictly only possible at the end of the month.
There is no entitlement to early cancellation. The Student Services reserves the right to reject corresponding applications without indicating reasons.
Cancellation applications must be submitted to the housing administration together with the deposit refund form (original copies, for example by fax or post) at least 14 days before the proposed cancellation date. The cancellation option does not apply to exchange students.
